Tying Session Thursday 25 January 2024

So, after eating and talking for the last two meetings, we revert to tying flies on Thursday 24th Jan as usual at the Cherry tree Inn at 19:30 – 21:30.

Everyone is welcome whether you are tying for your own fishing or just having a drink and chat.

Salmon Flies

This week I will start leading a group tying Salmon Flies.  Flies for fishing, not Fully Dressed traditional flies.

Below is my summary of the 10 flies we will try to work through, together with the patterns of the first three flies / tubes.

Dee Monkey

Aurora Cascade

Do not worry too much about precisely having the correct materials.  It does not really matter if you only have something similar.  I have a reasonable stock of most items that you can have.

We will start on Thursday tying the Spring (Dee) Monkey tube fly.

Fishing Report - Pitsford

With Farmoor shut following Storm Henk damaging the ramp to the boats’ pontoon, I fished with John KH at Pitsford Water near Northampton last week on a very cold day.  A moderate North Easterly in the morning was not pleasant.

All the action came in a 2 hour spell around midday and we ended up with just two fish (a Brown Trout & a Rainbow Trout) each.  However John had a 5.5lb Rainbow and I had a 4lb Brown – impressive looking fishes.

Despite the longer journey, it is a reservoir we should fish more often.

Looking forward to seeing a good turnout – the frosty nights should have been replaced by warmer wet and windy weather by then!

Tight lines to anyone fishing.
