Thames Valley Fly Dressers

A Branch of the Fly Dressers' Guild

Fly Tying Session Thursday 29th February 2024

We meet this Thursday 29th Feb at the Cherry Tree Inn for Fly-tying at 19:15 – 21:30. All are welcome for either fly tying or a chat.

Salmon Flies Group

We tie the Red Frances on a 1” copper tube (or one of your choice) this week under Simon’s instruction and guidance.

Between Simon, Peter H & me we have plenty of wool and other materials, so don’t worry if you are short of anything.

Don’t forget to bring your lamps!

Next week it will be the Gold Body Willie Gunn tube. Coincidentally, the first Salmon off the River Helmsdale was caught last week on a 1” Gold Body Willie Gunn – reinforcing it’s success as a Spring fly.

Trout Flies Group

I suggest you tie some early spring Dark Olives for the streams or get your buzzer boxes filled up for reservoir & stillwater fishing.

BFFI

I don’t know if anyone else went – it was my first visit for around 10 years.  I was most impressed at how large it had become.

It was heaving with people – much busier that I had expected – but inevitably an expensive day out with all the goodies for sale!

Great demonstrators from around the fly-tying world including ‘our own’ Paul Monaghan.

FDG National Fly-Tying Competition

Don’t forget to submit your entries by post.

Entries must be received by the General Secretary by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday 30 March 2024

Hope to see you all on Thursday.
