Grayling Trip November 12th 2016
We all arrived to heavy rain – the best forecast said it would stop by 11am the worst it would rain all day. The reality was rain until mid-morning and then intermittent drizzle. Fortunately, lunch time was fine. It was definitely a game of two halves but not the same half for everyone. Those who did well in the morning had a tougher afternoon session and vice versa. What was very nice to see was that size of the grayling were better than average with some really nice fish taken and relatively few fingerlings.
By lunch time we had over 50 fish to the net and finished the day with over 120. There were very few of the BT variety – they were cutting redds and had other things on their minds.
Key tactic was a beaded nymph with a thin leader – 0.18mm or thinner.
Phil came along for his first session and caught some nice grayling.
Overall a great day and despite the rain we managed to get out without getting stuck.
