Grayling Trip October 8 2016
The first day of our grayling season opened on a showery day with the river level pretty low. The good news was going was firm to get the cars in. The grayling had clearly not heard we were coming as they were flinging themselves on the bank right from the start. We stopped for lunch with over 50 fish caught and were refreshed with a delightful red wine kindly donated by Richard Bird.
The afternoon saw slower action but still plenty of fish and even some taken on the dry fly. The best fish catching technique was a nine foot leader with an indicator at the fly line end. At the business end two flies , a size 16 silver bead on the point and a shrimp on the dropper. Alex’s orange shrimp was very effective. We finished the day with over 100 fish caught including one roach. A good start.
