Fishing for Salmon in Cumbria

After five attempts to catch a salmon on the Dee in Scotland and the Teifi in Wales I finally succeeded in catching a mature cock salmon in good breeding condition on the River Derwent in Cumbria! It succumbed to a silver stoat tail and weighed in at approximately 9lbs! It took 20 minutes to bring it to the net before being released to carry on its journey through Bassenthwaite Lake and on to Borrowdale via Derwentwater. Several small salmon parr were also caught later in the day indicating that this stretch of water is in good shape for the future!
